Worshipping in the Storm
Series: Worship: Building a Vertical Life
Summary
Worshipping in the Storm
Pastor Aaron Sutherland
Pain, uncertainty, and trials are inevitable in life, but choosing to praise in the midst of hardship is what gives us hope and a new perspective.
As Christ followers we do not engage trials with despair, we engage trials with hope.
Really hard things can lead to really great things.
It's not the storms that determine the products of my life, it is my willingness to worship Jesus, amidst the storm, that determines what my life will produce.
I. WORSHIPPING JESUS IN THE STORM CREATES PERSPECTIVE ON MY SUFFERING
Romans 5:3
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance...
Waiting on Jesus is always worth the wait.
Endurance is only created through adversity.
II. WORSHIPPING JESUS IN THE STORM CREATES DEVELOPMENT IN MY CHARACTER
Romans 5:4
And endurance produces character...
III. WORSHIPPING JESUS IN THE STORM CREATES THE SUBSTANCE OF MY HOPE
Romans 5:5
...and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Often it is through that which is taken away, that we finally clearly see what we have.
Those who love Jesus do not approach trials with despair, we approach them with hope.
Discussion Questions:
1. How have you seen endurance as a helpful component in your relationship with Jesus?
2. Can you think of a hard experience in your life that produced something good in you? How did that happen?
3. How can you approach your current storm with Hope today?
