Worship: Why We Worship

Pastor Aaron Sutherland

Worship isn’t a chore, its an opportunity for God to reveal facets of Himself that we’ve never seen before as we respond to His promises and presence.

God’s word is the map revealing who God is, and Worship is the road trip that takes us there.

I. WE WORSHIP IN RESPONSE TO GOD'S PLAN

Ephesians 1:11

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will...

II. WE WORSHIP IN RESPONSE TO GOD'S PROMISE

Ephesians 1:12-13a

...in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation.

Psalm 95:1-6

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.  In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.  The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.  Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

Worship has nothing to do with who I am, and everything to do with who God is.

III. WE WORSHIP IN RESPONSE TO GOD’S PRESENCE

Ephesians 1:13b-14

When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Matthew 18:20

...where two or three gather in my name there I am with them.

Discussion Questions:
1. How has worship impacted Your life?

2. What challenges have you faced regarding worship?

3. How have you experienced God’s presence? And what was your response?
