The Way of Jesus

Summary

The Way of Jesus

Pastor Chris Hansler

Some questions that influence how we read a Bible story:

  • What do you believe about the Bible?
  • What do you believe about Jesus?
  • What do you believe about this story in the Bible?

1. The way of Jesus will create tension within you.

We need to be determined that we will not try to align Jesus to our ways, but that we will align our ways to the Way of Jesus.

2. The Way of Jesus always starts in the presence of the Father.

Matthew 14:22-24

"Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it."

Faithful prayer in the uneventful days will allow you to hear Jesus more clearly in the unimaginable days.

3. The Way of Jesus won’t always seem to make sense

Matthew 14:25-27

"Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake!  When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. 'It’s a ghost,' they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: 'Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.'"

Jesus was showing us new Kingdom ways.

4. The Way of Jesus should be our Way too.

Matthew 14:28-33

"'Lord, if it’s you,' Peter replied, 'tell me to come to you on the water.' 'Come,' he said."

(Notice Jesus didn’t calm the storm BEFORE HE CALLED PETER OUT. He wanted Peter to trust Him while the storm was raging.)

"Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, 'Lord, save me!' Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. 'You of little faith,' he said, 'why did you doubt?' And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, 'Truly you are the Son of God.'"

We respond:

  • At the prompting of the Father
  • Out of intimacy with the Father
  • In the power of the Spirit.

1 John 2:6
