The Flourishing Life

Series: Flourish

Summary

THE FLOURISHING LIFE

Pastor Aaron Sutherland

God doesn’t just want us to get by in life, God wants us to thrive. This message will give us some essential principles to experience “The Flourishing Life”.

Jeremiah 29:4-7
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

Instead of being changed by what the world brings to us, Shalom means we can change the world through what God brings through us.

Flourishing means to thrive, to grow well or develop in a healthy and vigorous way.

I. WE FLOURISH WHEN WE RELY ON GOD’S HELP

Psalm 115:9-11
All you Israelites, trust in the Lord—he is their help and shield.
House of Aaron, trust in the Lord— he is their help and shield.
You who fear him, trust in the Lord— he is their help and shield.

Romans 5:5
Because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us.

II. WE FLOURISH WHEN WE BELIEVE GOD’S PROMISE

Psalm 115:12-13
The Lord remembers us and will bless us:
He will bless his people Israel, He will bless the house of Aaron,

He will bless those who fear the Lord—small and great alike.

III. WE FLOURISH WHEN WE RECEIVE GOD’S BLESSING

 Psalm 115:14-15
May the Lord cause you to flourish,
both you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

Often God’s goodness is best understood in the rearview mirror of our lives.

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Discussion Questions:

1. How have you been able to live out a reliance on Jesus?  How might Jesus be calling you to more of this?

2. What are some promises that you are currently believing in Jesus for?

3. Can you describe what a thriving life in Jesus might look like for you? Are there any steps you can take to experience that more fully?
