Seek: Uncertainty

Summary

SEEK: UNCERTAINTY

Pastor Aaron Sutherland

When circumstances are beyond our control, we are invited to trust the one who is in control

I. UNCERTAINTY MAKES US SEEK GOD’S PURPOSE

John 11: 4

This sickness will not end in death, no it is for God’s glory, so that God’s son may be glorified through it.

Life's uncertainty tempts us to sacrifice that which is eternal and lasting, for that which is temporary and fleeting.

What we see as setbacks can become God’s setups.

II. UNCERTAINTY MAKES US SEEK GOD’S POWER

John 11: 11

Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep but I’m going there to wake Him up.

John 11:15

For your sake I’m glad I was not there, so that you may believe.

We can never trust God for too much, but we often trust God for too little.

Death is no match for God.

III. UNCERTAINTY MAKES US SEEK GOD’S PRESENCE

John 11:33

When He saw her weeping and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.

 John 11:36

Jesus wept.

God knows every joy of your tomorrow, yet still weeps with you in the sorrows of your today.

Discussion Questions

1. How have you experienced God’s purpose when things felt like a delay?

2. How has God shown you His power when things did not go according to your plan?

3. Have you ever felt God’s presence amidst a painful time?  If so, how did that affect your relationship with God?
