SEEK: SEEKING IN WORSHIP

Pastor Aaron Sutherland

Seeking Jesus in a more genuine way by understanding the true meaning of worship

I. THOSE WHO SEEK TO WORSHIP WALK IN GRATITUDE

Matthew 26:6-7

Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,  a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table.

Extravagant love fuels extravagant worship.

Our world may punish extravagance, but God’s kingdom is defined by it.

II. THOSE WHO SEEK TO WORSHIP WALK IN BEAUTY

Matthew 26:8-10

And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste?  For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor."  But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me."

Matthew 25:40

The King will reply, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

III. THOSE WHO SEEK TO WORSHIP WALK IN DEDICATION

Matthew 26:11-13

"For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her."

Once we understand the fullness of Christ’s sacrifice, we will be compelled to give the fullness of our own.

Discussion Questions

1. How has a beautiful act affected your life?

2. What limitations do we place on our expressions of worship?

3. Are there ways we could move past those limitations?

4. What actions of worship may God be calling you to today?
