Summary

QUESTIONS OF LIFE

Why did Jesus die?
Pastor Aaron Sutherland

I. CHRIST DIED SO I COULD EXPERIENCE GOD’S DIRECTION
Galatians 2:19 (CEB) "I died to the Law through the Law, so that I could live for God."

II. CHRIST DIED SO I COULD EXPERIENCE GOD’S AFFECTION
Galatians 2:20 (CEB) "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the life that I now live in my body, I live by faith, indeed, by the faithfulness of God’s Son, who loved me and gave himself for me."

III. CHRIST DIED SO I COULD EXPERIENCE GOD’S CONNECTION
Galatians 2:21 (CEB) "I don’t ignore the grace of God, because if we become righteous through the Law, then Christ died for no purpose."

 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What would it mean for you to die to what you can accomplish in order to trust in what only God can accomplish?  What does that look like practically?
  2. How have you experienced love in substitutionary sacrifice? (ie a love that offers itself on behalf of another.) How has that kind of love affected you?
  3. In what ways are you tempted to ignore grace?  What would allow you to open the gift of grace in a fresh way today?
