Fathom: Missiology

Pastor Aaron Sutherland

Ephesians 3:16-19
And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

The great commission is the Christ followers answer to the question…What do I do now?

I. OUR CO-MISSION HINGES ON CHRIST’S AUTHORITY

Matthew 28:18
Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore…

No matter how big my problem is, it will never be bigger than Christ’s ability to change it.

II. OUR CO-MISSION HINGES ON CHRIST’S MANDATE

Matthew 28:19-20a
…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you.

Christ’s mission is made possible because of who Christ is, but it is made practical because of who we are.

Our success is not about how many people we sit in this building - our success is about how many people we send from it.

III. OUR CO-MISSION HINGES ON CHRIST’S PRESENCE

Matthew 28:20b
Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”

Jesus does not call us to the impossible, Jesus calls us to what is impossible without Him.

Discussion Questions:

1. How does authority and power differ?  How does the authority of Christ on earth impact our ability to see changes on earth?

2. What are some ways I can say yes to the mandate of Christ to Go, baptize, teach and obey?

3. How has the presence of Jesus in your life impacted your influence on your world?
