God's Story of Redemption
Series: Love Theory
Summary
God's Story of Redemption
Pastor Aaron Sutherland
In scripture we’re told the story of God’s love.
Matthew 7:24
These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on.
God’s love is not to be understood through the lens of my experience, my experience is to be understood through the lens of God’s love.
I. THE STORY OF GOD REVEALS THE PROMISE OF OUR SAVIOR
2 Timothy 3:14-15
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
II. THE STORY OF GOD REVEALS THE DEFICIT IN OUR CHARACTER
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
God doesn’t only ask me to read the Bible, God asks that I allow the Bible to read me.
III. THE STORY OF GOD REVEALS THE REDEMPTION OF OUR PURPOSE
2 Timothy 3:17
So that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I think we make the mistake that God’s purpose is only found in innovation, in what’s added to our lives, but often God reveals His purpose in renovation, the gifts given through what God takes away.
Discussion Questions:
1. What does it mean to you when you see all the promises God made regarding the messiah, and the miraculous way Jesus fulfilled them?
2. How has the scripture revealed your personal need to be rescued?
3. How can you see the story of God transforming the story of your life?
