God's Role Model as Children
Pastor Aaron Sutherland
SERIES SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 5: 1-2 "Therefore, imitate God like dearly loved children. Live your life with love, following the example of Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us."
I. GOD’S CHILDREN SEE AS GOD SEES
John 8:12 "Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me won’t walk in darkness but will have the light of life.'"
II. GOD’S CHILDREN DO WHAT GOD DOES
John 8: 13-18 "Then the Pharisees said to him, 'Because you are testifying about yourself, your testimony isn’t valid.' Jesus replied, 'Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, since I know where I came from and where I’m going. You don’t know where I come from or where I’m going. You judge according to human standards, but I judge no one. Even if I do judge, my judgment is truthful, because I’m not alone. My judgments come from me and from the Father who sent me. In your Law it is written that the witness of two people is true. I am one witness concerning myself, and the Father who sent me is the other.'"
III. GOD’S CHILDREN KNOW WHO GOD IS
John 8 19-20 "Then they asked him, 'Where is your father?' 'You do not know me or my Father,' Jesus replied. 'If you knew me, you would know my Father also.' He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come."
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- In what ways have you experienced God changing HOW you see others? How might God be stretching you to experience that change even more?
- What actions have changed in your life as a result of the inner working of God’s grace in your life?
- How would you explain the difference between knowing about God and knowing God? Are there things you can let go of that will help you grow in KNOWING God?
