Bibiliology

Pastor Aaron Sutherland

We love God's word.

Ephesians 3:16-19
And I ask him (Jesus) that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

Revealed within the pages of the Bible is God’s redemptive plan for humanity.

The best translation of the Bible is the one you actually read.

I. GOD’S WORD HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE OUR DIRECTION

Hebrews 4:12a
Because God’s word is living, active, and sharper than any two-edged sword.

God’s word not only teaches us, God’s word transforms us.

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.

II. GOD’S WORD HAS THE POWER TO CLARIFY OUR CONFUSION

Hebrews 4:12b
It penetrates to the point that it separates the soul from the spirit and the joints from the marrow.

The soul loves to impersonate the voice of God’s Spirit, but God’s word IS the voice of God’s Spirit.

III. GOD’S WORD HAS THE POWER TO MANIFEST OUR MOTIVES

Hebrews 4:12c
It’s able to judge the heart’s thoughts and intentions.

Discussion Questions:

1. Has God’s word ever given you specific direction in a circumstance or changed the direction you were headed? If so, share that experience.

2. How has God’s word brought clarity to points of confusion in your life?

3. When has God’s word looked deeper into your life to reveal a motive that must change even though your outside actions looked good?  What did you learn in that circumstance?
