Deep in the Amazon

by Craig Angier on June 11, 2021

The following is an update for Cove Church from Nation-2-Nation, a ministry that believes that education and empowerment is the best way to ensure sustainable prosperity in the developing world. Their video-based courses give local churches and leaders the tools to fight poverty, sickness, and superstition within their own communities. By helping churches, villages, towns, and cities to transform from within, N2NCU is impacting communities in a way that will be felt for generations.

We just awarded associate degrees to 33 people in Cushillo Cocha, Peru—a remote area on the Amazon (where John got to take “fishing for piranha” off his bucket list). These people have only been Christians for a few short years, so we didn’t just train them in ministry – we helped them grow in their own faith, which, of course, is the first step in ministry. It’s easier and more natural to joyfully introduce people to Jesus when the joy in your own heart is gushing over.

They added a level of difficulty to their studies because they don’t speak Spanish, so they had to get someone to live-translate all of the lectures into Ticuna, plus someone had to translate all the material for exams. But they did it with constant encouragement from Galatians -- “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” And the harvest is only beginning. As they take what they have learned into their communities, they will see more lives transformed.

The pictures at the bottom are the ones they sent with their grades and graduation applications, so they’re very formal, but we wanted you to see their faces. We didn’t dare show you all 33, but these 4 are Calixto, Juana, Gerson, and Nelly. These are real people whose lives are immeasurably better because of your prayer and giving. Now, they’re ready to take the bull by the horns and turn the Amazon upside down for the glory of God and for the good of those who live there.

We encourage you with the same words from Galatians 6:9-10.  “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of God.” Don’t give up supporting the various ministries you help.

You’re reaping a great harvest!

Please keep these graduates in prayer. Financial support has provided their ministerial training, but it’s your intercession that will support their ministry. Thank you for caring about them!
