Treasure: God Treasures People

God wants to be both our treasure and our treasurer by reminding us that we are His while inviting us to a process of pruning and polishing to reveal our full potential.

I. GOD TREASURES PEOPLE THROUGH ADOPTION

1 John 3:1a

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

II. GOD TREASURES PEOPLE THROUGH CONNECTION

1 John 3:1b

The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

III. GOD TREASURES PEOPLE THROUGH TRANSFORMATION

1 John 3:2-3 

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

The degree to which we see God becomes the degree to which we show God.

1 John 3:1a (paraphrase)

See what great love the Father has lavished on you , that you would be called a child of God! And that is what you are!

Discussion Questions:

1. What does it feel like to know that God adopts you as a child? What does it mean to live out that truth?How have you experienced God calling you to distinction in the world?

2. How have you experienced God calling you to a different kind of life?

3. What has God’s transformation looked like in you? Describe that process.

4. When you think of Yourself as God’s treasure, what feelings emerge?
